Hide BEATS in SCRIPT VIEW#845

M

Consider allowing us to HIDE ALL the Beats in SCRIPT view. I understand why they MIGHT be useful in this view, but at times, it becomes messy, confusing, and disorderly, and allowing us to hide them creates a cleaner, distraction-free writing experience WITH access to all the beats STILL available in the sidebar. (the ability to toggle them on/off would be great).

Hey Matthew! The Beats are in the script because they’re linked together. This allows you to rearrange your script by dragging and dropping the beats, and it allows you to create and view notes on the beat while you’re working on that section of the script. Are you saying you’d like to completely disconnect the Beats from the script?

Hi Micah. Thanks for getting back to me. It’s just not always intuitive. For example, I wrote the beat in the outline, which ends up being 5 scenes in the script. That beat in the outline, in the script view, is forgotten, and now I have 5 scene headings, not connected to a beat, and I have to copy/paste those five scenes into the beat so it’s connected.

The beats on the left sidebar are agreat refernece, but seeing all the beats cluttered at the end of script, in scriptview, is a distraction.

If used perfectly, yes, I see the benefit, but being able to toggle on/off the beats in the scriptview would allow for a cleaner, distraction-free, uncluttered writing experience.

Hi, Matthew. The Beat and the script are designed to be connected. When you write the first scene in the Beat, click on the Beat title in the script and write the scene heading there. All the scenes from this beat heading up until the next beat heading will be in the beat.

This video shows the process I’m describing at 3:08

Hi! This all makes sense, and I will honestly try and use the beats in the scriptview as suggested. But even then, even when I’m writing, let’s say, 10 scenes, from a connected beat, in the scriptview, there’s all this clutter below my writing of all the other outlined beats. Being able to toggle that off, for a cleaner writing session, and then toggle it back on when I’m moving onto the next beat would be ideal. Thank you!

One other feature that will help! You can focus on just one beat at a time. https://help.arcstudiopro.com/all-how-tos/how-do-i-focus-on-a-single-beat

Yes, nice trick, good to know, thank you, but still would love that “clean, distraction-free” writing experience as an option, with my script, and a blank page in front of me. Thank you for all the feedback!
