The software is set up assuming that we type in our beats first and then build them out in the script and outline area. This is awesome, but could we also have an independent Beat Board(s) that aren’t tied directly to the Script?
Currently, I use the Beat Board in Final Draft and switch to that for viewing while working on my script in Arc Studio. I transfered all of my beats there because I use them as a visual organizing tool but don’t want them affecting my script. Just an idea!
I pretty much do the same thing. I like the Beat Board in FD and the ability to freely create cards to hold whatever information (story beats, character beats, location, theme, motifs, …) and that I can put them whereever I want.
I can relate to David Lynch a lot with his notion of catching ideas like fish. When I catch one, I want to write them down but oftentimes I don’t know what becomes of it, yet alone where it would belong in a beat board or a script. I need to develop it first, and having the ability to freely move it around, unattached to a script, to put down other cards next to it with additional ideas is so helpful to me.
Would love to see something like this in Arc Studio as well.
Cool! I related to literally every word you wrote. Hope they consider this!!
Me too! I would love to be able to do this. I don’t use the Beats as-is in Arc Studio because I like to do that separate as part of my thought process.
A workaround could be to create a second script and open them side-by-side (using Shift+Click to open in a new window).
