I mainly use inline annotations for comments to myself. In Final Draft and Highland it is a ‘=’. at the beginning of a line. In Scrivener, it is CMD+Shift+A (which means the annotation can be anywhere).
It would be great to have inline annotations in Arc Studio. Comments are OK but I find more for longer notes or for shares commenting.
